About Me

Hi, I’m Elly Reed, a Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner passionate about helping women find relief from chronic symptoms through a trauma-informed, holistic approach. My journey into this work was deeply personal—I know what it’s like to feel dismissed by conventional medicine, to be told there’s nothing more that can be done. When I discovered Functional Nutrition, Somatic Experiencing, and Parts Work, everything changed. These practices not only supported my body, but they also shifted my entire relationship with my health. Now, I’m here to share that support with you.

Why I Do This Work

For years, I struggled with chronic conditions that conventional medicine couldn’t fully address. I was told my only options were surgery or medication, but that didn’t feel like the whole story. When I began exploring Functional Nutrition and mind-body practices, I was blown away by the changes I experienced. It became clear to me that true health isn’t just about food—it’s about understanding your body, your environment, and how they interact.

That realization led me to earn certifications as a Functional Nutrition Counselor and Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner through the Functional Nutrition Alliance, as well as a Therapeutic Nutrition and Supplementation certification. I’m also a certified Biology of Trauma Professional through Trauma Healing Accelerated. With this training, I help my clients uncover the root causes of their symptoms, supporting them with science-backed tools while honoring their lived experiences.

My Approach

Functional Nutrition is more than just what’s on your plate—it’s about how every system in your body is connected and how your nervous system and past experiences influence your health. My work is centered on:

  • The Five Pillars of Health – Sleep/Relaxation, Movement, Stress/Resilience, Nutrition/Hydration, and Relationships/Networks.

  • Functional Medicine Principles – Root cause resolution, a systems-based approach, and a therapeutic partnership.

  • Somatic Experiencing & Parts Work – Helping you reconnect with your body and develop a gentler, more compassionate relationship with yourself.

  • A Safe & Supportive Space – I believe that hope and healing begin with feeling safe and understood. When you work with me, you’re not just receiving nutrition guidance—you’re gaining a partner in your journey who truly sees you.

Who I Work With

I work with busy women navigating chronic symptoms like autoimmunity, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and fatigue—women who are tired of restrictive diets and conflicting health advice and are ready for an approach that actually supports their body and nervous system. My goal is to help you take small, sustainable steps so you can regain energy, improve digestion, and feel at home in your body—without overwhelm.

A Little More About Me

When I’m not working with clients, I’m a mother of two, homeschooling my children and enjoying life in Anchorage, Alaska. I love getting out in nature, embroidery, and playing the ukulele. My favorite self-care ritual? Somatic experiencing and being fully present while preparing food. I turn on my favorite music, pour a mock tail of apple cider vinegar and mineral water in a fancy glass, and immerse myself in the sensory experience of cooking—it’s a simple yet powerful way I reconnect with myself.

My own journey has shaped the way I support my clients. I have a high ACE score and have spent much of my life navigating panic attacks, depression, and anxiety. In the past, my coping mechanisms included binge-eating, drinking, and numbing out in any way I could. But through Functional Nutrition, Somatic Experiencing, and Parts Work, I’ve shifted to coping tools that support expansion in my life, rather than contraction. These practices have benefited not just me, but my entire family and the women I work with. Before, I was living life in black and white—now, I experience life in full color.

Certifications and Training

I bring a comprehensive, science-backed, and trauma-informed approach to nutrition counseling. My training has given me a deep understanding of the body's systems, how they interact, and how to support them through personalized nutrition and nervous system regulation.

I have completed the following certifications and training:

  • Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor (CFNC) & Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner (FNLP) – Trained through the Functional Nutrition Alliance, specializing in root cause resolution and a systems-based approach to health.

  • Certificate in Therapeutic Nutrition and Supplementation – Completed with Josh Gitalis, providing expertise in targeted nutrition strategies to support the body's natural processes.

  • Biology of Trauma Professional – Certified through Trauma Healing Accelerated, with a focus on understanding the nervous system’s response to life experiences and how to support it in a way that leads to long-term regulation.

  • Advanced Biology of Trauma Professional Training (In Progress) – I am currently deepening my understanding of the impact of trauma on biology and how to develop effective strategies for nervous system regulation.

These trainings allow me to take a holistic, client-centered approach—not just focusing on food, but looking at how life experiences, stress, and environment influence health. My work is about meeting each client where they are, providing compassionate support, and creating sustainable steps toward feeling better.
